Greg Boyd on Gay Marriage

by Carson T. Clark on January 20, 2013

More than 19 minutes on a controversial subject and I don’t think I disagreed with anything.

    Taliban quote at 13:45.

I agree with most of what he says. I love his attitude. But I’m wrestling with his “We shouldn’t legislate sin, that’s what the Taliban does” argument. But we do legislate sin at times. There is some sin we legislate, such as stealing or murder. Other sins, such as adultery or greed, we don’t legislate. So the question is “What sins should we legislate on and what sins shouldn’t we legislate on?”

Unless Boyd is taking the position that the church should not weigh in on any legislation at all and should leave that to the lawmakers, then I don’t see how the last 7 minutes of his talk gets us anywhere. Unless there’s a line he’s drawing about how we decide which sin to legislate on and which not to that I missed…

But again, I love what he says in the first 12 minutes about sin, the church, gays, who Jesus would be hanging out with and looking in the mirror first.
