A Call to Writing: Occasionally the Holy Spirit’s Leading Is Clear (Miniblog #202)
God rarely “tells” me things. You’ll rarely if ever hear me saying something like, “God told me…” It’s just not a part of my spiritual vocab let alone my schema. My sense of where the Holy Spirit is leading almost always comes from some combination of thoughtful analysis, careful discernment, and other members of the Body of Christ. Today, quite out of the blue, I’ve had three unconnected and godly pastors from divergent traditions contact me through Facebook, email, and phone call. Each identified my gifting and exhorted me to pursue my writing aspirations with full vigor. Really? I mean, c’mon. I realize I can be dense sometimes, but every once in a while the Holy Spirit’s message is so blatantly obvious that I almost feel embarrassed by the apparent level of presumed stupidity. “Yeah, yeah. I got the message! Pursue writing. Yeesh.” Not that I’m complaining, of course. Lord knows I’m wired like Han Solo. I’d prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin’ around.
